Often when I approach a a large subject, I end up being attracted to some of it’s finer, even defining details.
And so it is with this image of Lincoln Center at night.
Of course I’ve shot the architecture of the plaza at Lincoln Center. Haven’t we all? But this night, I was really attracted to the silhouette of the young woman sitting on the edge of the fountain.
I knew that in the finished photo, I’d be able to bring out all the detail and texture of the water. I just needed to wait until it was in full height so that she was completely framed in its brilliant glow.
A little post processing with dynamic contrast, clarity and highlight adjustments provided the final touch.
So next time you’re confronted with a larger than life architectural icon, in your own city or someone else’s, dig a little deeper and find the essence of the thing.
And as always, please help me keep this site alive by browsing through my ebooks of beautiful New York City black and white photography.
And I’ll donate 20% of the purchase price to one of the following global humanitarian charities that you can select on checkout: UNESCO, Unicef, Earthwatch, Doctors without Borders, Human Rights Watch and The Hunger Project
Until next time, happy shooting.
